How a Ukrainian Alcohol Producer Ensures Continuous Production and Economic Stability with Jenbacher

The company is one of Ukraine’s leading alcohol producers, founded in 1992. It ranks among the industry leaders and is the largest exporter of vodka products from Ukraine.

Key Facts

  • Export to more than 80 countries worldwide
  • Presence on five continents
  • Approximately 40–45% of Ukraine’s vodka exports
  • Portfolio of over 30 product SKUs
  • Multi-stage filtration system
  • Numerous international awards

The company is one of the largest taxpayers in Ukraine and a stable employer in the region.

(For security reasons, we do not disclose the name of the customer or the location of the facility. The information will be updated once peace is restored in Ukraine.)

Task

Due to extensive damage to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the business faced the risk of unstable power supply.

To ensure uninterrupted production, the company’s management needed to address two strategic objectives:

  • Ensure stable energy supply even in the event of disruptions in the external grid
  • Improve overall production energy efficiency

A production shutdown would have meant not only financial losses, but also risks to jobs and export contracts.

Outcome

The optimal solution was the installation of an on-site combined heat and power (CHP) plant. Following a tender process, KTS Engineering was selected as the project partner, offering a containerized solution based on the Jenbacher JMC J320 GS-N.L. unit operating on natural gas.

The project was implemented in 2025.

The system provides:

  • Simultaneous generation of electricity and thermal energy
  • Full coverage of the company’s peak load demand
  • Operation both in parallel with the grid and in autonomous (“island”) mode
  • Guaranteed production continuity even during emergency grid outages

Results

  • Reduced energy costs
  • Improved overall energy efficiency
  • Guaranteed stability of the technological process
  • Protection against energy-related risks

Project documentation is currently being developed for further expansion of the CHP capacity.

Solution features

  1. Island Mode Operation. The Jenbacher J320 unit can operate autonomously or synchronously with the grid without power backfeed, ensuring reliable supply to critical loads.
  1. High Efficiency. Combined generation of electricity and heat maximizes fuel utilization and overall efficiency.
  1. Operational Flexibility. The ability to operate in different modes allows the company to optimize load management according to production needs.
  1. Digital Monitoring. The integrated myPlant system provides remote monitoring, performance analytics, and real-time alerts to prevent abnormal operating conditions.
