STALKANAT is the largest manufacturer of steel ropes and reinforcing strands in Eastern Europe, the leader in the production of hardware products in Ukraine. The company employs 916 people. The main products are ropes, wires, strands, fibers and mesh. The company exports its products to more than 30 countries around the world and serves various industries, including mining, oil and gas, metallurgy, construction and transport.

Task

A power outage poses a serious challenge for businesses, as continuous operation of the enterprise is impossible without a stable power supply.

The management of the Stalkanat company faced two main tasks: to provide the enterprise with a reliable and stable source of energy and to increase energy efficiency. To solve these problems, it was decided to introduce its own generation of electricity.

The introduction of in-house power generation allowed the company to ensure a stable energy supply and reduce dependence on external factors, such as power outages. In addition, this solution has improved energy efficiency, which is an important factor in reducing costs and improving the company’s competitiveness.

Outcome

In February 2023, STALKANAT and KTS Engineering signed a contract for the supply of Jenbacher gas piston power plants JGC 420 GS-N.L. with an electric power of 2.92 MW. The contract also included commissioning and subsequent maintenance of the energy center equipment.

In May 2023, at the Stalkanat enterprise, we installed and put into operation two container gas piston power plants with an electric power of 1,460 kW each, with a generator voltage of 6.3 kV.

The project provided for the use of power plants in parallel with the general power grid, without power flow. In the event of a power outage, the power plants switch to “island mode” and provide energy to the main equipment of the enterprise.

Currently, both power plants are in operation and provide the company with its own electricity. This allows you to significantly reduce energy costs compared to buying from external suppliers such as the city’s power grid.

Solution features

1. The speed of project implementation. Thanks to the team of KTS Engineering specialists with commissioning competence, INNIO support, the project of Stalkanat own energy center was implemented in the shortest possible time – less than 6 months from the moment the contract was signed to the commissioning of the equipment.
2. Economic effect. The introduction of new Jenbacher equipment brought a significant economic effect to the Stalkanat enterprise by reducing the cost of electricity by half. This made it possible to significantly increase the energy efficiency of the enterprise and reduce operating costs.
3. Island mode. The new Jenbacher equipment provides a reliable power supply to the enterprise due to the ability to work in “island mode” and parallel operation with a common power grid without power transfer. This ensures the stability and continuity of the enterprise even in the event of a power outage.
