NOVA (formerly Nova Poshta) is Ukraine’s leading express delivery company for documents, cargo, and parcels. It has been operating since 2001, and by the end of 2019, its network included more than 6,000 branches with sorting terminals in Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Lviv. In May 2022, the company began its European expansion under the brand Nova Post, opening its first branch in Poland. In 2023, it established Nova Post Europe and opened offices in 11 countries, including Moldova, Poland, Lithuania, Czechia, Romania, Germany, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Hungary, and Italy. At the beginning of 2024, the company changed its name from “Nova Poshta” to NOVA and actively continues its expansion in Europe, planning to enter 17 more countries.
Task
Due to constant Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy system, NOVA decided in 2024 to build its own power generation to ensure electricity supply and achieve energy independence. For this purpose, it founded the company “Nova Energy,” which will handle the in-house energy generation project.
Outcome
After a thorough selection process, NOVA chose KTS Engineering as its partner. KTS specialists proposed a container-based solution using specialized Jenbacher units. Under the contract, KTS Engineering is supplying six Jenbacher JGC 320 GS-N.L. gas piston cogeneration units with a total capacity of 6 MW and one Jenbacher JMC 208 GS-N.L. unit with an electrical capacity of 330 kW. All cogeneration units are equipped with a complete heat recovery system. The contract also covers commissioning and maintenance services.
The first cogeneration power plant was already launched in the first half of 2025 in western Ukraine at NOVA’s logistics hub. The remaining six units are scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2025. All six plants will operate on a combined heat and power (CHP) basis, generating both electricity and heat using natural gas as fuel.
In addition, NOVA is advancing its energy independence project by launching two solar power plants and installing energy storage systems at three sites. This will enable the company to combine different energy sources and ensure uninterrupted business operations.
Jenbacher in container execution* is a mobile power station ready for quick installation and commissioning, reaching its design capacity in the shortest possible time.
Solution features
- Economic Effect. Implementing the new Jenbacher equipment creates an economic effect by reducing the cost of electricity and utilizing thermal energy for heating. Developing in-house generation has significantly improved the company’s energy efficiency and reduced operating costs.
- Rapid Commissioning and Mobility. The Jenbacher container is installed and connected at the generation site. It is then connected to the gas supply, electricity delivery point, and heat networks and is 100% ready to start generating electricity and heat. Container-based solutions can be quickly dismantled and relocated if necessary.
