Tisagaz LLC is part of the Cub Energy Inc. group of companies. Is a publicly traded hydrocarbon exploration and production company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange in Toronto, Canada. Cub Energy is headquartered in Houston, Texas. Cub develops several natural gas fields in Ukraine, including the Russko-Komarovskoye gas field, which is directly developed by Tisagaz LLC.
Task
In accordance with Ukrainian legislation and standards, natural gas produced at the Russko-Komarovskoye field cannot be accepted by the gas transmission system due to its low calorific value and high nitrogen content. Accordingly, Tisagaz LLC was faced with the task of ensuring the continuation of production at the field without using the services of a gas transmission system operator. The company made a decision to launch electricity generation at the Russko-Komarovskoye field by burning natural gas of its own production. To accomplish this task, the company had to select gas generating equipment for generating electricity by burning off-grade gas.
Outcome
To implement the project, a contract was signed between Tisagaz LLC (Cub Energy Inc.) and KTS Engineering LLC for the purchase of two Jenbacher gas generator engines with a capacity of 1.5 MW each for the first phase of the project.
Specialists from KTS Engineering proposed a container-type solution*, using a special version of Jenbacher engines designed considering the physical and chemical characteristics of the gas.
* A Jenbacher container is a complete power plant that can be installed at any location, with quick start-up and ramp-up.
Solution features
- Fuel type. In the course of research and selection of gas generating equipment, much attention was paid to the type of fuel, namely substandard natural gas.
- Special version of Jenbacher engines. For power generation with Jenbacher gas engines, there is no need to carry out a gas cleaning and enrichment process, as the engines can run stably on produced gas. To achieve high reliability and efficiency, Jenbacher engines are manufactured with a specific fuel type in mind.
- Fast commissioning and Mobility. The Jenbacher container is installed and connected at the generation site. The plant is then connected to the gas supply, the power delivery point, the district heating network (if any) and is 100% ready to start generating electricity and heat. Container solutions can be quickly disassembled and transported to another location if required.
In fact, the implementation of this project allows the company to slightly increase production volumes compared to the same period of the year and increase the profitability of the development of the previous field.
